As a Advanced Design Engineer Intern, you will be working on new architecture design and development in commercial and electric vehicle propulsion solutions. The primary responsibility is to develop new component designs and to support the development, testing, and release of vehicle propulsion solutions.

Essential Job Functions


·         Develop new transmission component designs for conventional and electric propulsion solutions using sound engineering principles, GD&T and tolerance stack-ups

·         Perform engineering calculations: component loading, stress, and life calculations for general sizing efforts

·         Design new parts in CAD, review FEA results and make design judgements based on those results: components may include shafts, gears, housings, clutches, and other powertrain components

·         Direct and collaborate with CAD designers to develop new product concepts

·         Ensure accurate and timely completion of new designs and modifications to components and sub-systems

·         Support and solve component deviation requests, durability, and other field issues

·         Determine appropriate DVP&R level to validate the product and execute to completion by initiating test requests, supporting data review and interpretation, and a thorough review of test reports

·         Support DFMEA, PFMEA activity and assessment to Best Practices to guide product design; including either generation of new or modification of existing

·         Develop a solid understanding of the manufacturing and assembly aspects of design

·         Work with suppliers, Purchasing, and Supplier Quality Engineers to support cost reduction, sourcing decisions, and design changes

·         Work with internal advanced analysis group as required

·         Other duties as assigned

Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering in process

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities


·         No experience in design of powertrain components required

·         Knowledge of mechanical systems

·         Ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints

·         Strong oral and written business communication skills

·         Strong organization and analytical ability
