About Our Company
FuelCell Energy, Inc. (NASDAQ: FCEL) is a global leader in developing environmentally responsible distributed baseload power solutions through our proprietary fuel cell technology. We develop turn-key distributed power generation solutions and operate and provide comprehensive services for the life of the power plant. We are working to expand the proprietary technologies that we have developed over the past five decades into new products, markets and geographies. Our mission and purpose remains to utilize our proprietary, state-of-the- art fuel cell power plants to reduce the global environmental footprint of baseload power generation by providing environmentally responsible solutions for reliable electrical power, hot water, steam, chilling, hydrogen, microgrid applications, and carbon capture and, in so doing, drive demand for our products and services, thus realizing positive stockholder returns. Our fuel cell solution is a clean, efficient alternative to traditional combustion-based power generation and is complementary to an energy mix consisting of intermittent sources of energy, such as solar and wind turbines. Our systems answer the needs of diverse customers across several markets, including utility companies, municipalities, universities, hospitals, government entities and a variety of industrial and commercial enterprises. We provide solutions for various applications, including utility-scale distributed generation, on-site power generation and combined heat and power, with the differentiating ability to do so utilizing multiple sources of fuel including natural gas, Renewable Biogas (i.e., landfill gas, anaerobic digester gas), propane and various blends of such fuels. Our multi-fuel source capability is significantly enhanced by our proprietary gas-clean-up skid.
Responsibilities
Overview

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Plant Design Engineer to join the multi-disciplinary Advanced Technology team and lead the design and build of fuel cell plant systems for both power generation and hydrogen production. This person will help coordinate the overall design among multiple engineering sources, both in-house and third party, including definition and control of the interfaces among the various technical groups.  This individual is expected to assist the lead engineers in the design and development including: systems level plant engineering; CAD modelling of equipment, piping runs, and structural skids; assisting with equipment selection; and working with suppliers to ensure delivery of sub-systems and components.  This position requires flexibility to work on multiple projects in various stages of the design or validation process

Responsibilities:

Utilizes engineering design documentation including PFD’s, P&ID’s, and vendor supplied specifications to develop plant CAD models (Autodesk Inventor) that will be used to generate plant site layouts, and mechanical fabrication drawings.
Maintain the overall plant design, including a complete CAD model and control all the interfaces among the various plant sub-systems. Coordinate the designs among various engineers and outside groups.
Manages the top-level plant Bill of Materials (BOM) in conjunction with the CAD model of the plant. This includes both custom designed components and vendor supplied equipment on multiple skids.
Designs and develops custom pipe spools, bellows, and pipe supports, using CAD software, and analyzes designs utilizing a combination of engineering calculations, computer-aided engineering tools, and/or analyses of testing data.
Packages and routes plumbing to plant process equipment utilizing CAD software. This includes equipment anchoring hardware. Process equipment may include: rotating equipment (pumps, blowers, compressors, turbo-expanders), heat exchangers, process vessels, fuel processing system components, reactors, water treatment systems, etc.
Manages outside vendor fabrication of equipment in accordance with the technical requirements and project schedule. This includes periodically visiting vendor’s production facilities to inspect product workmanship and witness equipment performance or other acceptance tests.
Ensures that systems are developed in accordance with best safety practices. This includes participating in Hazard and Operability Analysis (HAZOP) reviews.
Supports system fabrication, installation, and commissioning activities when needed to ensure proper system operation.
Prepares technical reports and presentations to communicate designs/results to internal and external stakeholders, and assists with writing project proposals.
